Gork @ Green Door Store | live review

If you’re a fan of outlandish bands that don’t take life seriously, Gork are the band for you. I arrived at the Green Door Store with absolutely no idea what to expect, apart from the one listen of 20-second song ‘Bad Spinach,’ but even that ridiculous song didn’t set me up for what I was about to experience.

All six boys were on stage, all donning different coloured suits that were so ill-fitting I was worried their trousers were going to fall down at any moment . Lead singer Ed was a force to be reckoned with and has an astonishing amount of energy I will never be able to relate to, from running around on the floor off-stage, collapsing on the floor while screaming like a banshee, and creating a fake birthday celebration for a lucky girl in the crowd. (Happy 13th birthday, Sarah!) Even then, this was not even a fraction of the smorgasbord of events that happened in just a half an hour set, it was absolutely one of the most unique gigs I’ve ever been to.

To cut a long story short, this band will have you laughing and going, “What the fuck is going on?” and every second is worth it.

Gork played at Green Door Store as part of Washed Out Festival on 13 April, 2019.
