Sophie and Cal from Other Half used to be in a folk band called Ducking Punches but it’s safe to say that Other Half AREN’T a folk band. It’s hard to know where to pitch them – 90s noisy indie style songs with angular guitars and dual boy/girl vocals. Alfie (drums) and Sophie (bass) make a really solid heavy rhythm section, allowing Cal to Pixies-riff over the top of what are basically short aggressive pop songs. The songs come thick and fast, and even when they appear to not know what they are doing - dissolving into giggles during one song - you can’t help but still dig what they’re giving you. I actually find them quite endearing – their interaction can be funny, and they blatantly have a weird sense of humour. Can’t wait to hear more and see what else they do.

Other Half played at The Hope and Ruin as part of Washed Out Fesival on 13 April, 2019.
