Sit Down @ Patterns | live review

I was looking forward to seeing this noisy two piece after reading an interview with Katie on their Facebook page. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Their awesome single “Teeth”, which is some kind of cross between a groovy lounge track and psych freak-out, didn’t really give much away. What I got was grumbling synths, distorted bass and trashy drums, all held together by Katie's clear and 60’s sounding voice – a bit like a grunge Nancy Sinatra. The vocals were the forefront of the songs, with the melodies and choruses holding the songs together, allowing Greg to lose his shit as and when he pleased. The highlight was when more band members joined the stage as the set went on – extra guitar and bass, adding to the intensity and bonkers-ness of the music. I usually despise instrument swapping in a set, but they managed it smoothly. Five songs and one thrash freak-out later, they were done. It’s nice to see a band trying something a little different, and putting the effort into the visuals and stage-craft, and they’re really nice people too. Will see again for sure.

Sit Down played at Patterns as part of Washed Out Festival on 12 April, 2019.
