Apple Music's Carpool Kareoke delayed premiere date (news, university assessment)

Apple Music’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’s premiere date has been pushed back. The spinoff of the popular segment of CBS’s ‘The Late Late Show With James Corden’ was set to launch this spring, but has now been pushed back to August.

The series was originally set to launch this spring after being first announced in July last year. But in April, the premiere was delayed to “later this year”, which is now confirmed to be on the 8th of August.

The Apple Music show will contain 16 half-hour long episodes which will feature celebrities driving around town together. Similar to The Late Late Show’s version where James Cordon drives around with celebrities and sings along to their music, Apple described their spinoff series as “16 celebrity pairings riding along in a car together as they sing tunes from their personal playlists and surprise fans who don’t expect to see big stars belting out tunes one lane over”. James Corden is said to make an appearance in the series, but he won’t be hosting it.

Apple’s spinoff Carpool Karaoke is part of a programming push at Apple, which has been looking for music-related series to add to its Apple Music offering. Carpool Karaoke will be Apple Music’s first original TV show, with plans for the launch of another show to be announced soon. The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios and Fulwell 73, the production company of The Late Late Show’s executive producer Ben Winston.

So far, Apple Music has Will Smith, John Legend and Alicia Keys confirmed for their series. Carpool Karaoke will be made available to subscribers of Apple Music when it premieres.
