Ariana Grande Manchester benefit concert (news, university assessment)

Ariana Grande has announced a benefit concert in honour of the victims of last week’s Manchester attack. All proceeds made by ticket sales will go to the We Love Manchester emergency fund, which will benefit the victims and the families affected by the bombing.

On May 22nd, the Manchester Arena got bombed by what authorities believe to be a single attacker wearing a suicide vest. More than 100 concert goers got injured and 22 lives got taken, most victims being young fans of the American popstar Ariana Grande, whose concert had just finished when the bomb was detonated.

Grande will be joined at the event on the 4th of June by friends and fellow stars Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell, Usher, Niall Horan and others. Proceeds will go to the emergency fund that has been set up by the Manchester City Council to support victims of the attack. Organisers expect at least £2 million to be raised by the event.

The 23 year old pop star announced the benefit concert on twitter by uploading a picture with all the gig details on it. The headline of the picture reads ‘One Love Manchester’, with the ‘o’ in love being replaced by an awareness ribbon fused with Grande’s signature bunny ears that is meant to express sympathy for the victims and families affected by the attack.

The event will take place at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, a cricket ground with a capacity of 50,000. Fans who were at the original Manchester show will be offered free tickets and general admission tickets will go on sale on June 1st, prices are yet to be announced. The gig will also air live on BBC TV, BBC Radio and Capital Radio Networks as well as a streaming partner that is yet to be announced.
